The Lion Park

The Lion Park is an area around an hour's drive from Jo'burg that is home to around 80 lions, as well as a smaller number of other animals.

Wilderbeest and Impala:

I don't think either of these fellows need introducing:

Ostriches may, if you were as ignorant as I regarding the difference between ostriches and emus. Ostriches are native to South Africa (though now bred all over the world for their exceedingly tasty meat) while emu are smaller cousins native to Australia.

But mostly, of course, I wanted to see the lions. Many, many lions. :-) Who sleep 18 hours a day ...

But do occasionally take a passing interest in potential meals:

Until the effort gets all too much for them.

Some of the cubs are rejected by their mums and have to be hand-reared, which does have its advantages for visitors :-)
