The D200 was my second DSLR (after the D70) and is now my backup body.

Things move on very quickly in digital photography! I can still remember how excited I was when the D70 was announced: the first Nikon DSLR below a grand.

Similarly with the D200. Nikon's then flagship model was the D2X, and the D200 was 95% of a D2X for half the price.

But things moved on again. The D3 redefined the game. I did my very best to resist, but failed miserably.

The D200 is still a superb camera, of course, and when travelling I do quite often carry both bodies, the D200 usually with the Sigma 10-20mm on it while the D3 has my favourite lens, the Nikkor 35-70/2.8.

It's also good to know that, in the event of the D3 failing on an important shoot, the D200 could pick up the pace in terms of all but the darkest of low-light situations. For 99% of work, it would do just fine.
