No matter how great my love for older 911s
, you can't expect me to survive without a certain minimum level of technology. Various gadgets thus had to be transferred from the 968. All are permanently wired-in to the car's electrics so I don't need to have a million things hanging off a cigarette-lighter splitter ...

GPS

My StreetPilot III satellite navigation system was top of the list. This is one gadget I most definitely wouldn't want to be without, letting you get on with the driving while the technology takes care of the navigation.

Accident blackspot detector

Apparently speed cameras are only ever installed at accident blackspots, so it's handy to be alerted to them. Especially the hazards you'd never guess, like completely straight stretches of dual-carriageway or motorway, miles from the nearest junction ...

The Morpheous Geodesy is a GPS-based device, so it doesn't have to detect anything: it knows where you are, and it already knows where the cameras are. It alerts you to all types of accident blackspots: Gatsos, SPECs, Truvelo.

The bright red LEDs and extremely loud warning are perfect for an open-topped car.

iPod & iTrip

My iPod contains my entire music collection - some 5500 tracks. My iTrip broadcasts whatever the iPod is playing on an FM frequency. The radio is tuned to that frequency, letting me listen to my iPod through the car stereo.

I use a Belkin car cradle and power cable to hold the iPod and power it from the car.
